Don’t Get Clogged Up: Eco-Friendly Drains Clean & Clear

If you want to lead a “green” eco-friendly lifestyle, one of the things that you need to change is how you go about cleaning your home. This includes how you get rid of clogs in all of your drains, whether you’re experiencing slow water drainage in your kitchen sink, your bathroom sink, or even your tub.

While there are plenty of conventional drain cleaners available at pretty affordable prices, if you’re concerned about the effects that these strong chemicals have on the environment, water, and wildlife, your best bet is to take a more natural approach. Thankfully, there are quite a few different techniques you can use that will clear your drains in a much more environmentally friendly way.

Purchase Eco-Friendly Drain Clearing Products

Though there are fewer eco-friendly drain cleaners than chemical-based ones, you certainly can find them if you look in the right places. Many stores are beginning to carry more and more natural cleaning products in order to meet increased consumer demand for these types of goods. And you can also easily find these products on the Internet by performing a simple search.

One product that you can try is by the brand known as Earth Friendly Products. They produce a drain cleaner that is completely natural and utilizes enzymes that are meant to break down any materials that are clogging up your drains.

Biokleen also produces a variety of natural products that can be used throughout your home. Try their Bac-Out Drain Care cleaner that combines natural enzymes and live cultures that will clear out clogs effectively.

And a third product you can consider trying is Earthworm’s Drain Cleaner, which is safe to use around children and pets because it uses natural enzymes that clear out drains while giving them a fresh, clean scent.

Utilize Baking Soda and vinegar

Baking soda is a really versatile cleaning solution that you can use all over your home, from your kitchen to your bathroom. To unclog drains using baking soda, simply pour about one cup of baking soda down the drain. It will eventually settle on the clog. Then pour about three cups of boiling water, which will react with the baking soda to begin breaking down the debris that is causing the clog. Follow it up with another cup of white vinegar, which will also react with the baking soda to make it bubble up and break down the clog naturally.

Substitute Washing Soda

If baking soda is not doing the trick, get some washing soda instead. Pour a cup down the drain and give it time to make its way to the clog. It is a lot more caustic than baking soda, so only use it if you have not used other methods already. Follow it up with the baking soda and boiling water method above to fully clear out the clog.

There are many ways to keep your drains clear of clogs. But if you want to avoid harsh chemicals, opt for enzymatic cleaners or try home remedies instead.
