Your Swimming Pool – Saltwater or Freshwater?

Are you thinking about installing a swimming pool in your home? Swimming pools are pretty costly, but they more than make up for it with the amount of fun you can have. Have you thought about what type of water you’ll put in it? Probably not. You can either go with saltwater, or freshwater like what most people use. Normally you would probably have used the freshwater, but you don’t have to do this. In fact, there are lots of reasons why you might be better opting for saltwater and we’ll take a look at them below.

Let's Go Swimming!

They’re better for you

If you don’t yet own a swimming pool you might not be aware of the amount of chemicals that go into them. Believe me, it’s a lot. It wouldn’t have bothered you before because you didn’t see them go in, but once you do you might wish you had went for the more natural saltwater.

The salt is a lot more comfortable on your skin than chlorine. Wait until you start getting itchy eyes and it can get quite annoying. It can also damage your hair, which if you’re a woman is reason enough to forget about it. Your skin is going to be immersed in the stuff. If you go with saltwater you don’t need to worry about any of it.

Handling chemicals

Can you remember back to a time when you were at a holiday resort that had a swimming pool? If you were one of the first ones out in the morning you would have smelt the chlorine coming off the pool. Are you prepared to handle those smells every day? Think about if you can handle it.

You are going to need somewhere to store all these chemicals and their “lovely” smells. Do you have such a place in mind? You won’t need to bother storing anything with saltwater. Think about how much more environmentally friendly that is. And if you don’t care about the environment, just think of the smells again.

 It’s a lot cheaper

Maybe you’re saving up your pennies. After all, you’re going to be spending a lot on the outlay of the pool. Do you really want to be spending much more after it’s been installed? Those chemicals cost money, and you can’t just stop buying them or you won’t be able to use your pool anymore.

You’ll also have to pay pool technicians when something goes wrong, and it always does. With the saltwater pools they do cost a little more up front, but after a few years you’ll have made your money back. They actually cost half the amount of money a freshwater pool does.

Cleaning the poolTake it easy

One of the biggest reasons is the fact that you don’t need to do anything with a saltwater pool. They will clean themselves which will save you a lot of time. You don’t want to be spending all your time cleaning the pool, which can actually take ages.

What would you rather be doing: cleaning or swimming. Freshwater pools will develop a lot of algae over the year. This isn’t the case with salt water. You can rest easy knowing whenever you want to go for a swim you can just skip out the house and jump right in. What would you rather choose? Consider the saltwater swimming pool.
